OREANDA-NEWS  The Russian government, headed by Mikhail Mishustin, will resign on Tuesday, May 7. It will subsequently be elected according to the new rules established after the 2020 amendments to the Constitution.

The current Cabinet of Ministers will resign immediately after the inauguration of President-elect Vladimir Putin, when the head of state takes office. This time, the government will be fully elected for the first time under the new rules that came into force after the amendments to the Constitution.

According to the new rules, the candidacies of prime ministers, deputy prime ministers and most ministers will be approved by the State Duma. This will not affect the "power bloc", which includes the Ministry of Internal Affairs, the Ministry of Emergency Situations, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Ministry of Defense and the Ministry of Justice — the president will appoint their heads only after consultations with the Federation Council.

The current government was approved in January 2020 after the resignation of the former cabinet, headed by Dmitry Medvedev.
