OREANDA-NEWS  According to the results of the previous year, foreign banks in Russia generated a fifth less income compared to the year before - $3.36 billion, while their parent companies earned about 1% from their Russian operations. This information was obtained by RIA Novosti after analyzing the reports of foreign banks operating in the Russian Federation and their parent companies abroad.

The analysis included the indicators of 49 foreign banks, but some of them were sold during 2022-23 and some did not submit full reports for 2022 and 2023. Therefore, the indicator was calculated based on the reports of only 29 banks and includes losses from some players.By the end of 2023, the total net profit of reported banks amounted to $3.36 billion, a decrease of 22% compared to $4.3 billion in 2022. This represents a decrease in the overall profit of parent companies of these banks, which reached $350.7 billion in 2023, an increase of 2.8% over the previous year's figure of $341 billion.

The share of income from Russian businesses from foreign banks and companies has decreased to 0.96%, compared to 1.26% in the previous year. Raiffeisenbank earned the highest among foreign banks in Russia, with $1.4 billion, or 122 billion rubles. Unicredit and OTP Bank follow closely behind with $696 million and $253 million, respectively.In addition to the top ten, Chinese banks Mitsubishi and Bank of China were also among the top performers, with net profits of $249 million and $171 million, respectively. American Citibank, Dutch ING Bank Eurasia, German Commerzbank Eurasia, Japanese M-U-F-G bank Eurasia, Uzbek Asia-invest, and J.P. Morgan all made it into the top ten as well.
