OREANDA-NEWS  The international biopharmaceutical company AstraZeneca has for the first time admitted that its COVID vaccine can cause a rare side effect — thrombosis with thrombocytopenia syndrome, the Telegraph newspaper reports, citing court documents.

"The vaccine can in very rare cases cause thrombosis with thrombocytopenia syndrome (TTS). The reasons for this are unknown," the newspaper quotes an excerpt from a document provided by the company to the court in February.

According to the publication, 51 lawsuits have been filed in the High Court of London, the victims and their relatives are demanding compensation for damages, the amount of which is about $ 125 million.

Thrombosis with thrombocytopenia syndrome leads to the formation of blood clots and a reduced number of platelets, the newspaper explains.

The first application, according to the publication, was filed last year by Jamie Scott, who, after the introduction of the vaccine in April 2021, developed a blood clot and a brain hemorrhage, which led to irreversible brain damage.

In May 2022, the newspaper la Repubblica reported that the family of Italian Francesca Tuscano, who died in April 2021 after being vaccinated against coronavirus, initiated an investigation. The relatives of the 32-year-old teacher turned to a medical examiner and a hematologist, who found that "the death of the patient can reasonably be attributed to side effects from the introduction of the COVID-19 vaccine." The woman died in San Martino hospital from cerebral thrombosis the day after the administration of the drug from AstraZeneca.
